Reflections

My favourite memory this year was our camp. The best part of camp was RainbowEnd! Have you ever been on the Rainbows end log flume? Well I have been on it Three times! When you go down the slide it feels like you are falling down, down into the deepest, darkest hole. I am very glad I was tall enough to go on the scary log slide.

Measurement poster-litres and millitres

WALT: explain what we have been learning about in measurement like capacity, length and mass. The most hardest one I had to do was mass because I don't have that much memory on how to weigh heavy things.

I chose litres and millilitres as my measuring component because i have more knowledge on how to tell the capacity of things. πŸ˜€πŸ’§πŸ’¦

Halloween Poster

WALT: make persuasive posters about why we should keep or stop doing HalloweenπŸŽƒ. For the argument I chose yes because who would want to give up a public holiday in New Zealand?πŸ‘»

Te Kauru Camp 2018 - (Writing 2nd Draft)

Animal hospital

Wow! Baby animal skeletons have the most microscopic bones I have ever layed eyes on. While I was waiting for our classroom instructor I stared at a fossil of a baby kangaroo. Every little bone on the miniture rib cage was still atached. Being inside the hospital made me feel like a Zoologist despite I knew nothing about animals. There were so many interesting things like guessing the speed of animal heartbeats and reading facts about types of species. After a while the instructor told us to sit on the woven mat. We sat on the very uncomfortable mat and waited for her to start the lesson. She taught us what crusty bum was and how it affected kakapo’s. Then she started to throw kakapo plushes to my classmates. Also she handed out sheets of plastic covered paper that explaned the process of the disease. I’t was soo disgusting that I felt my eyeballs try to turn to the back of my head.

Steam Reflective Questions

2018 - Term 3 STEAM - ‘Coding and Arduino Boards’ Reflective Questions

WALT: post our steam reflective questions on our blog.

1. What was I learning and why?
We were learning how to make a circuit using a Arduino board and hook it up to a laptop and make the lights on the bread board that was hooked up to the Arduino board blink.

2.  What did I do well and how do I know?
I made 6 lights flash alternatively very easily with my partner
Jaxon by only putting wires in
the correct places and placing the resistors and the led’s.
the led’s are also known as light emitting diodes.

3.   What challenged me …?
Making the long code which took a while to make because it was tricky and you had to find one block then find the other.

4. What would I do differently next time
to make my
learning more successful …?
I would definitely slow down because every time I went fast the code came out wrong so me and Jaxon had to go over it again.

5. What have I enjoyed about the learning?
I have enjoyed learning how to use Snap4Arduino because its a fun way to code and watch the sprite move all over your screen. We also hooked our Arduino boards to the app and it gives us the codes we need to make the light flash.

Cleaning Up

Today was a nice day for a walk. So since we didn't have anything to do I walked down my driveway with a bag and started picking up rubbish. While I was walking I saw rubbish against a fence and picked it up. My Mum was helping me to look for rubbish. I walked off the foot path and carefully onto the road to collect a plastic bottle lid. I also found a milk straw wrapper, so I picked that up as well. In my bag I had ...... a chip packet, tissues, paper and plastic. I managed to clean a bit around my house driveway.

Animation

WALT: Make animations with Whaea Donna.

At first I thought we were using shapes for the animations but when I was told we were not using shapes I got lost for a long time until i was told to search up a picture with png at the front which made it way easy to make.

Here is the animation I managed to create.

Cross Country

Cross country

The screaming, the cheering, my heart pounding in my chest. Go! Shouted sir as we bolted towards the quad bike. We had only been running for 30 seconds and I was already knacked. I looked at the sea of people on my left side, arms up in the air, yelling so hard I couldn’t hear myself. I thought my eardrums would burst. The end of the hill loomed in the distance. As I boosted down the hill with all of my strength I could see the quad becoming smaller and before i knew it I was left behind with caedance and a girl from Niwa. All that we could hear was birds cheeping and the distant yelling of the kids and parents. As we all went around the corner and past the lakes the screaming grew louder and louder. Finally as we went past the last hill the tarpolen with many people of all sizes came into view. We trudged up the hill with all our strength we suddenly heard a growling in the distance and I turned around quickly. Then the quad came into view with two boys behind it. As we rapidly ran the Niwa girl got left behind so I went back for her and we jogged through the finish shoulder to shoulder.

Arduino Coding

WALT code using a Arduino board so we can assemble a circuit and hook it up to a computer
At first i found it tricky to do a simple circuit with one light in it but when i got the hang of it i felt like the master of circuits  (I'm not but still i felt that way).

It's a hard but fun way to do it and every one now asks me for help.

Partner: Jaxon

Kiwi Drawing + Writing

WALT: draw pictures on google draw so we don't steal other peoples drawings and claim them as our own

This is my writing about the kiwi

Enjoy

NZ’s Endangered Bird

Many years ago the kiwi population was filled to the top but the magnificent creature is disappearing  and someday all of those myths, facts and the bird itself will be lost in history.

Predators

Kiwis are threatened to extinction. Many feral cats and animals like rats  possums and mustelids are wiping them off the face of the planet… but they are not the worst threats. There are less of these flightless birds every day, caused by predators and some cars one day there will be none left. The furry creatures are a

vulnerable target  for animals. There are a variety of Predators all over nz making the hunted bird part of their diet. Dogs are the worst threats to the native bird because Adult kiwis can’t fight them off because the dogs are colosal to them.

Diet

The little bird is an omnivorous creature. It’s diet contains plants, bugs and grubs. Some of the bugs it eats are cockroaches, grasshoppers, beetles and crickets. The little creature also eats worms. They can detect worms from under 3 cm deep. The bugs contain moisture so the New Zealand icon rarely
drinks.

Habitat

The endangered species Thrive in the forest but due to deforestation there is less places for them to hide and survive. The unique creatures sleep in their daytime burrows which is normally located under a tree. Some other species make labyrinths under ground which is a arrangement of tunnels, some leading to a dead end and a few leading to another burrow entrance or exit.

These creatures are on a pathway to certain extinction but if we join forces and look after the mini bird they would probably make a slow but steady rise with population!
